Top Boat Cleaning Tips

Of course you think to wash your car, but have you thought to wash your boat? It might be a lot of work, but it is entirely necessary in keeping your boat in good condition. It is especially necessary when you get ready to store your boat in the winter so you can keep the mice out. With a little bit of elbow grease and knowing which products to use, you can clean your boat with ease.

Round Up the Right Cleaning Products

When you get ready to clean your boat, you want to make sure you have the correct cleaning products. Here are some of the products you should have:

  • Two buckets, one with soapy water and one with clean water

  • A wash mitt, it is best to use this over a wash cloth as it will not scratch your boat

  • A water hook-up to rinse your boat

  • A dry towel to dry your boat off

  • Soap that is specific to cleaning a boat, you do not want to use just any soap

  • A microfiber cloth

  • Gloves, goggles, etc

How To Clean Your Boat Correctly

First begin by rinsing your entire boat off. This will rinse any dirt and grime that may rinse off your boat easily with water. After your boat has been rinsed, use your bucket with water and soapy water and your wash mitt and begin gently washing the exterior of your boat. Once you've done this, rinse your boat again and then dry off once it is completely rinsed. Be sure to dry it off right away so you do not leave behind any water spots.

Washing the Interior Of Your Boat

Once the exterior of your boat is clean, now it's time to focus on the interior.

  • Clean the windshield with a microfiber towel

  • Vacuum the floors and seats

  • Scrub all floors that do not have carpet and any seats

  • Polish all chrome; ladders, railings, cleats, etc

  • Scrub any part that may grow mold/mildew to prevent growth and spread

Put the Cover On Your Boat

Once your boat is all clean, let it completely dry in and out and then put the cover on to repellent the inside from getting dirty again.
